O belíssimo gavião-de-penacho

O gavião-de-penacho (Spizaetus ornatus), também conhecido como apacanim e águia-de-penacho é uma ave bela e possante, de tarsos emplumados até a base dos dedos. Infelizmente essa beleza está extremamente ameaçada fora da floresta Amazônica. Mas por quê?
BELO, PORÉM DISCRETO! COMO ASSIM? Medindo 67 cm, com envergadura de 140 cm, o gavião-de-penacho adulto apresenta costas e asas marrons, quase pretas; o peito é branco com barras horizontais pretas, que vão até a base dos dedos; as laterais do pescoço, nuca e parte do peito apresenta uma exuberente coloração castanha; ainda tem um topete preto, que pode medir até 10 cm.
Por mais colorido que ele seja, é uma espécie não tão comum de ser vista planando, diferente de seus congêneres, o gavião-pega-macaco (Spizaetus tyrannus) e o gavião-pato (Spizaetus melanoleucus). Caça no interior da floresta, usando poleiros altos para identificar possíveis presas, depois voa de forma silenciosa e rápida entre as árvores para capturar seu alimento.
O QUE AMEAÇA ESSA CRIATURA MAGNÍFICA?
Infelizmente, fora da amazônia essa espécie está Criticamente Ameaçado de extinção, estando presente em todos os livros vermelhos dos estados que tem a presença da Mata Atlântica. Os principais motivos são a alteração e a erradicação do habitat, além do abate pelo ataque à criações de animais.
